about me

Hi, I'm Hania,

I'm a wellness consultant,  acupuncturist, naturopath, and Life Alignment facilitator dedicated to helping people heal from root cause and to understand how best to maintain overall wellbeing.

I can help you align the innate healing capacity of your mind, body and spirit so you can feel whole and on the right path.

I’ve learnt from both my years as a practitioner and from my personal health journey that a multi-faceted approach works best. Whilst working at five-star spas in Asia I found that any naturopathic lifestyle/diet modifications and supplementation can be finetuned according to TCM for better, faster results. Regular acupuncture accelerates the body's self-regulating mechanisms and calms the nervous system for improved sleep and stress management.

It's essential to get to the root cause of any issues for a lasting change. This may require making external changes, but often there is a need to look deeper at the mental/emotional state and history and to work at this level, which acupuncture and Life Alignment allow me to do with ease and accuracy.

I work both in person and online using natural and energy medicine, nutrition, essential oils and lifestyle advice to support people with overall health. I'm passionate about food as medicine, the power of plants, spices and medicinal mushrooms, the process of self-discovery and learning to live more in harmony with natural rhythms. I love working with people who are seeking to understand their bodies and emotions better.

I've always thought it's important to "walk my talk" so my advice, and recipes are based on personal as well as professional experience. I love sharing what I have learnt. I believe in collaboration, listening to the body (and learning to listen to the mind less!), getting to the root of issues and finding innovative and enjoyable ways to work within the parameters of a limited diet or physical capabilities. I am always learning and expanding my knowledge and skill base so I can better serve the people I work with. I'd love to hear from you if you like the sound of the way I work.

MORE ABOUT ME

I was lucky enough to grow up in a family where food took centre stage, and not just any food. My mother grew up in Dar es Salaam, by the sea. My grandfather was passionate about food, the guy who would go to the fish market at 5am and talk to the fishermen and get the best fish before the restaurants. The man who required 5 star chef standard cooking of my grandmother, and whenever they discovered a new chef would invite him home to their house to teach my grandmother and their cook to make the revelationary dish to the same standard.

My mum continued to cook from scratch but modified her cooking to make things simpler, spent years on and off as a vegetarian and put emphasis on local, fresh foods and brought in international recipes from her experiences living and travelling in Africa, Europe and the USA. My parents were going to farmer’s markets and food co-ops and eating organically and seasonally before it was fashionable (I was the kid whom no one wanted to swap lunch with as my food was of the homemade brown bread sandwiches, an apple and Hedgehog crisps variety).

This passion for delicious, fresh, high quality food and the normality of taking time and pleasure to prepare food has been the foundation of my culinary experiences. As I was lucky enough to grow up cooking from scratch as a matter of course, it made it much easier when I was diagnosed with systemic candida, had a health crash and had to cut out a load of things from diet, and then reframe again after seeing first an Ayurvedic doctor and later a Chinese medicine doctor and learning about my constitutional type and the foods that would better support me, and those which could create imbalance and I need to avoid. I took this as an opportunity to get innovative with my food. How could I make things tasty within a limited framework? How could I recreate dishes I loved without key ingredients? This started an ongoing process of recipe invention and refinement, which has supported me in designing eating plans and recipes for patients with various food limitations.

It was a natural progression, after my personal experience of food as medicine (or major contributor to ill health) that I was inspired by the Chinese medicine dietary principles learnt during my acupuncture BSc degree, which I combined with my experiential knowledge to provide recommendations to my clients. Ever the student (and perfectionist), I wanted to understand food as medicine more comprehensively, as well as the inner workings of the body, to further support my patients’ and my own health. Next, I studied naturopathy and got a BHSc in Naturopathic Nutrition and quickly went on to become the resident naturopath at Conrad Maldives, where I spent almost two years working in the award-winning Spa Resort, mainly working with stress and weight management. This was followed by a couple of years at the multi-award winning Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary in Thailand, which focuses on holistic detox, stress and burn out and weight management. In both of these resorts, I had the opportunity to work within multi-modality teams and to treat a wide variety of international clientele.

During this time I learnt the importance of balancing work and energy expenditure with rest and self-nurture (and the detrimental effects of getting this wrong) and how important it is to have a healthy mental state and nervous system to sustain good health. I learnt a great workplace, good food, the perfect climate and beautiful nature are not enough to sustain good health if you work beyond your capacity and lack the emotional and social support to truly switch off out of work. So I took these lessons home. Took some time to rest, reconnect with friends and family, travel, spend some time in an Ayurvedic retreat, do some voluntary work, update my Life Alignment training and then I was ready to start working in London.

My mission is to help people become more in tune with themselves, to learn to better understand the cues from their bodies, to learn how they can create supportive lifestyle habits, process emotions appropriately, and choose and create delicious food that promotes optimal health, energy and weight management (by understanding their constitutional types, and imbalances and bodily cues). I use Life Alignment and acupuncture to help with the subtle, mental/emotional and energetic aspects of health, plus bespoke nutrient, food, mycotherapeutic (that's therapeutic mushrooms), herbal or essential oil supplementation as needed to achieve these ends. I hope this site will inspire and educate you about how you can connect with your body wisdom and understand the simple steps you can take to feel better inside and out.
